Before AutoCAD and other architectural software there were t-squares, stencils, electric erasers, fine point pens and pencils, handheld dust brooms, ink bottles and pencil sharpeners. Drafting tables were equipped with a variety of technical drawing instruments, implements and paper taped over fluorescent illumination.
Draftsmen were taught to unlearn their crafts for the sake of technology but not to entirely abandon them. Due to software's ever changing upgrades, "draftsmen" are required to constantly learn all over again. It just so happened that ink migrated from the bottle to cartridge.
